Club History

It doesnt matter if you win or lose, its the taking part that counts!

Have a shot!!! In 1990, the idea for St Marks Rangers was born, situated in North Clondalkin, the club was set up by local men and women anxious to give kids a chance to play football, so the idea was put into practice and the first team was created. It was hard work all the way, getting a pitch, gear and enough interest to make it work. After a couple of weeks the team was placed into the DDSL league, the following year another team was put together. After gaining a pitch in the then Balgaddy Park and dressing rooms, the club set about building on this foundation.

The teams expanded to 4 over the years, but to due to the increasing work demands on some of the managers, some of the teams had to fall to the wayside, Over the years the teams have been worthy adversaries in the leagues, the now U17 Major team doing the league and cup double in 1998. The majority of the teams are made up of local kids from the area and some from surrounding area's. In 2000, 2 new teams have been added, the U8 team and for the first time ever a senior team, the U8's play in the DDSL and the seniors in the Leinster Junior League. There is ongoing work to raise the profile of the club whih will continue with the creation of more teams at the end of the 2002 season. A number of players have gone on to higher level football after playing for St Marks, Robert Shiels being one of them now plays for Leeds Utd. The now U12 team have been runners up the last 3 years running in both the DDSL and the South Football Dublin League and for the first time ever a team from the club has reached the last 32 of the SFAI. So there is a lot potential at the club at all levels.

The Club has always maintained itself over the years in various leagues and hopes to continue this tradition into the 21st century. The club is always on the lokk out for new managers as the facilaties is there to equip more teams. Clondalkin, Home of St Marks Rangers
